Just months ago, top execs from Western Digital said that they will not enter the SSD market, as clearly they are comfortable with their existing rotational hard drive market. Nevertheless, Western Digital today has announced their latest SSD solution for the market, dubbed as the SiliconDrive III.
These SiliconDrive III SSDs arrive in 2 sizes, namely the 2.5 inch SATA and PATA drives as well as the 1.8 inch Micro SATA drives. On the other hand, the SATA transfer rates are superb, with speeds exceeding 3Gbps.
The maximum storage capacity however, is capped at 120GB at the moment. And there’s not mention on the price or availability just yet – so consumers have to wait just a little longer before they can lay their hands on these SiliconDrive III SSDs.
